The Federal Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, decided that it was not in the local community’s interest in approving Lachlan’s Square Village Pharmacy to supply medicines subsidised by Medicare (i.e. the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme). His reasoning was that because there are ten pharmacies within 5 km of the North Ryde Station Precinct, residents already have reasonable access to pharmaceutical benefits.
The Minister was provided with incorrect information by his advisors, including Census data from 2016 (before the North Ryde Station Precinct even existed). He assumed that approximately 75% of households have access to a car, when we know that the actual number is much closer to 50%. Disappointingly, the Minister also completely ignored the recommendation of Urbis, the town planners responsible for the development of Lachlan’s Line.
Despite providing the Minister with the correct information, the Minister and the Department of Health have refused to consider the matter further.
We are asking the local community to sign this change.org petition to let Greg Hunt know how many people are dissatisfied with his decision. We would also ask you to contact our local member of parliament, John Alexander, so that he may escalate this matter with Minister Hunt.
